Sophie Jensen, a freshman with an early interest in engineering, compared different water-to-concrete ratios using compression tests to determine which mixture created the strongest structural result. Her project drew inspiration from her experiences working on construction projects with her dad, sparking a desire to continue testing different concrete brands and ratios. Winning nationally affirmed her excitement for engineering research and opened the door to continued exploration.
